Shootout Loss

The Canadiens suffered a tough shootout loss to the Sharks last night in Wheatley losing 2-1. The team played hard but in the end the team was to undisciplined, and you cannot win a game in the penalty box. The Canadiens took ten minor penalties to Wheatley's five, including one in overtime which they managed to kill off. However the timing of the penalities lead to ten powerplays for the Sharks and two for the Canadiens. The Canadiens got on the board first with a goal from Scott Chauvin in the second period. Wheatley answered on one of their ten powerplays at 12:15 of the second tying the game at 1-1. There was no more scoring in regulation or in the overtime period, taking the game to a shootout. Derek Haskell and Riley Babkirk shot first for each team, and niether scored. Chris DiNatale shot second for the Canadiens but was stopped by Marc Tremblay. Austin Fontaine scored for the Sharks to take the lead, which meant the Canadiens had to score to continue the shootout. However, Scott Chauvin slid the puck through the crease just missing the net and the Sharks won the game.

This was the final meeting between the two teams for the regular season with the Sharks taking the season series 4-3. These two teams will meet in the first round of playoffs with home ice still up for grabs. The meeting will be a rematch from last years Great Lakes Junior C finals where Belle River defeated the Sharks in 7 games to win the Championship. This should be a great first round match up for any fan of the Great Lakes league.

The Canadiens will practice twice this week then play a home game at Tecumseh Arena this Friday at 7:30 against the Wallaceburg Lakers.
